Breitsol Communications Station

The Breitsol Communications Station was located on the Geiersberg, the highest elevation in the Spessart. This station was used as a communications facility during the Cold War. It played an important role in the communications network of the US armed forces in Europe and was used for electronic warfare.
The facility consisted of several radio masts, which were also used by various mobile phone providers.The Breitsol Communications Station was one of six radio relay sites operated by Company A in the Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Darmstadt, and Nuernberg area.
10 members of Co A are stationed at the Breitsol site. The site serves as a relay site for both microwave and troposcatter communications and was operating 24x7.
